Happy Friday (and almost Saturday!) Hope you all had a great week. Ever since I added more hours at work I feel like the weeks have been FLYING by, next thing I know it’s already the weekend.
I haven’t done a Friday favorites in awhile so thought I’d share some of favorites from this past week 🙂
–Trader Joe’s guacamole hummus. 1. Yes this is a thing. 2. yes it’s as epic as it sounds.
I don’t venture over to Trader Joe’s as much as I should because it’s ALWAYS a madhouse. I envy those who live in a city where Trader Joe’s isn’t crowded at all hours. After hearing about the guacahummus on instagram I knew I had to try it. My only experience so far was using it to make tuna salad for lunch and it was fantastic. So fantastic I felt the need to announce my new love for guacahummus (a word I just now invented) to everyone at work.
–Ezekiel’s sprouted english muffins. “Fun” fact, I eat an english muffin every. single. day. I’m convinced I will never get sick of the glorious peanut butter + honey + english muffin breakfast combo, mmmm! I grew up eating only whole grain bread (thank you mama!) so I’ve been trained to buy whole wheat english muffins, however after reading Lauren Slayton’s book “Little Book of Thin” I decided to give Ezekiel’s frozen sprouted english muffins a try.
According to Slayton sprouted grains are higher in nutrients than other unsprouted breads and are also easier to digest. Sprouted grains are also high in protein– which is something I’m always trying to consume more of. Switching over to frozen ‘muffins has actually been great because I can buy a few packs at a time and don’t have to worry about them going moldy.
Tip for frozen bread: I had NO idea how to defrost bread… which is why I’ve avoided Ezekiels for so long. I try to take out a muffin the night before I’m going to eat it and put it in the fridge to defrost. If you forget, you can also microwave it for about 10-15 seconds so it’s soft enough to cut in half… then just toast it as normal.
— fun manicure to celebrate springtime
The matching was totally unintentional. Color options for gel manicures have sure come a long way in the 3 years I’ve been getting them!
– Lunchtime workout break. On Thursdays I’m usually at work from 9-6pm. On the days I work a “full” day I love sneaking out for a midday workout during my lunch break. This week I took a great yoga class at Laughing Lotus during my lunch break. If it’s an option, I highly recommend leaving the office for a quick workout just to give you a short mental break. I’ve been opting for less sweaty workouts in the middle of the day, usually yoga, sculpt fusion or barre.
-Violet the Musical. I know I usually talk mainly about health and fitness, after all that’s what this blog is all about! But my first love has always been musical theater and it’s what I went to college for. On Tuesday I went with my big brother (a huge musical theater fan as well) to go see Violet. The show was absolutely gorgeous and has one of my favorite scores of a musical. Can’t wait for the new cast recording to come out!
Oh, and Sutton Foster + Joshua Henry are SO ridiculously talented.
—A lazy Friday night. Not gonna lie, all week I’ve been looking forward to spending my Friday night in PJ’s eating indian food and [vegan] peanut butter cheesecake while watching Say Yes to the Dress. I used to hate spending Friday nights alone but have learned to embrace them at the end of a busy week. Lounging around all night is one of my favorite ways to unwind and kick off the weekend. No shame in enjoying some lazy alone time!
What are your favorites from this week?
Do you also spend all week looking forward to watching Say Yes to the Dress as well, heh
