I had this moment yesterday while I was sitting with my grandma, brother, and nephew. This feeling of pure bliss. And also realizing how far I’ve come in my anxiety journey.

We were eating lunch outside. The food was great. The view was perfect. There was a slight breeze. And I was in awe of thinking about my grandma hanging out with her great grandson.

I thought about how I was feeling a year ago right now. Anything outside of my usual life routine in nyc often times resulted in bad anxiety.

I didn’t realize how much my anxiety had taken from me. But then I have a day like yesterday where I can *feel* just how different I feel.

If you’re struggling know that you’re not the only one 💗 And it does get better. Little by little.

NCL Breakaway

Hope you are all having a lovely week so far. Going back to work after vacation was… well going back to work after vacation but I’m starting to feel caught up with everything!

As I said when I got back, Jeremy and I had a seriously amazing time on the cruise and are already (jokingly) planning our next one. I actually got the idea to go on a cruise while I was running on the West Side Highway one morning. A ship (possibly ours) had just gotten in and there were a bunch of families walking around with suitcases heading home. I thought how convenient it would be to take a cruise from New York since I already live here. When I started looking at prices it turns out a 1 week cruise is reasonably priced and much cheaper than flying somewhere to stay at a resort.

Choosing which ship to go on the itinerary was overwhelming since there’s actually a few boats that leave from New York. After talking with some friends who have gone on a bunch of cruises we decided to book a 1 week trip to Bermuda on the Norwegian Breakaway.

The Ship

The Norwegian Breakaway was pretty ridiculous as far as amenities, activity and entertainment go. Since neither of us had a lot of experience on cruises I thought might as well “go big or go home” and go with a boat that offers a whole lot. During the days at sea we had a blast taking advantage of all the cool things the boat had to offer.

There are a number of pools including this Spongebob themed one for kiddies. I’m not much of a swimmer but Jeremy even got me to go in the water in the pool to the left since the water was nice and warm. Thanks to the movement of the ship the pool was more like a wave pool during the days at sea so that added a bit of extra fun to wading in the water.

Both of us loved climbing around on the ropes course. The heights freaked me out a bit more than I expected considering my favorite pastime is flying trapeze. I blame the fact that we were also surrounded by water on both sides of the ship as well 🙂

The coolest and uh scariest part of the ropes course was “The Plank” where you walked out onto a beam that was high above the ocean. I think the wind was actually freakier than the actual height, it was WHIPPING. Even though I was in a harness it still would have sucked to fall…

We enjoyed a round of Mini Golf during one of the days at sea.

Hit up the basketball court. A few fitness classes and sports tournaments were also held up there during the cruise.

There’s a number of water slides on the roof of the ship. I wasn’t allowed to go on because I can’t take out all of my earrings but Jeremy had fun testing them out.

Inside there’s plenty more to do– an extensive arcade, casino, duck pin bowling alley and handful of lounges to hang out in as well. Even though our cruise had 3 days at sea it wasn’t difficult to find ways to amuse ourself since the ship had a lot of fun things to offer.

As I mentioned before I didn’t work out all that much while on the cruise. Sleeping in was far more enticing and the fitness center was also super crowded during the days at sea

The cruise did offer a handful of fitness classes, some for free some for a fee. There’s actually a Flywheel Stadium on the ship. I should have asked if they had any discounts for former Flywheel employees 🙂

I attended two of the complimentary fitness classes. The first was listed as zumba… but really ended up being more of a stretching class with no dancing which was disappointing. The second class was an awesome cardio class on the basket court.

Jeremy and I both loved loved loved the entertainment on the ship. We were huge fans of The Second City improv shows and hit up as many of their shows as we could. Watching them made me miss the acting world a little bit. We loved seeing Fire and Ice, a motown duo who play tribute shows perform. We also purchased tickets to see Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy but the show ended up being cut short and refunded since it was during our last day at sea and the boat was incredibly rocky. The parts we saw were still pretty great!

Before the vacation I read A LOT of cruise reviews comparing different ships, cruise lines and itineraries and definitely don’t regret choosing the NCL Breakaway with all it had to offer. The ship alone was pretty insane… oh and I guess Bermuda was nice too.

As a former theater major who now works in the book industry, I was especially excited to see this book to musical adaptation on Broadway. I remember loving the book in middle school and I was absolutely blown away seeing the musical. My jaw literally dropped at some points, I was so in awe.

@outsidersmusical is now playing at the Jacobs Theatre on Broadway. Be sure to get your tickets at outsidersmusical.com or via the link in my bio.
