Hey running, I know we’ve been getting along really well recently with that whole running a half marathon thing and all, but I gotta go back to my first true fitness love, cardio dance.
It’s been a hot second since I’ve taken a dance class of any format, which is weird considering I used to take 5+ hours of dance class at week in college… plus plenty of zumba classes each week as well. I also spent my college summers working as a dance camp counselor which meant dancing for a whole lot of hours in the sweltering heat every day. Whenever I’m in “training mode” for a race I tend to focus on running as my main form of cardio (obviously) and supplement with cycling classes as well since they are low impact.
While I’ve grown to really enjoy running compared to how I felt about it last summer, deep down inside I’m still that girl who started taking dance classes when she was 4 years old. Even though I decided to leave the performance world behind after graduating college, I still miss many aspects of acting and dancing.
This weekend I got reacquainted with my love, cardio dance, and helped christen The Movement by taking their very first class with a coworker.
Besides the unique classes at this studio, I love that The Movement donates $1 per person per class to the National Brain Tumor Society, how cool to mix sweating with charity.
The class I took was very appropriately named MOVE and mixed 30 minutes of “follow the leader” cardio dance with 30 minutes of sculpting. I forgot how good it feels to “dance it out” and how much I missed moving my body in that way. My #1 fitness tip has always been find the workout you love, and for me I will always love any workout that involves dancing.
Bizarrely enough my calves are more sore today than they were the day after my half marathon. Who says dancing isn’t a good workout?
In other news… what I thought would be a lazy weekend, minus the dancing, ended up being pretty jammed packed with getting recertified in CPR, lots of shopping, catching up with some friends and a super quick visit from the boy. I think I could use another day to veg out after being productive all weekend… but y’know gotta go back to school and work!
Hope you all have a lovely week 🙂 And here’s to hoping spring decides to stick
What’s your true fitness love?

Love dancing so much even though I am really not very good at it! When I finish watching Dancing with the Stars I move around my house and pretend I can dance like them. 🙂 I wish I could find more dance classes other than just zumba.

Sounds like a great class! I would have to say that I’m the most uncoordinated person and dance classes intimidate me! My fitness loves are yoga and running!

Ahhh, I love this!
My true fitness love is tennis! It’s always so hard because I don’t know anyone around me that plays, which makes it kind of difficult. But there’s ways around that and I Just need to find them!

Running is my fitness love. It’s the thing that changed my life. It’s what helped me lose weight, it helps me stay in shape now, helped me find my new fit life, and inspiration to start a blog.
I love to dance, but it’s for fun. It makes me smile.
Weights, yoga, spin…that stuff I do for the challenge. I like to mix it up.
