Happy new year, everyone! Hope you all had a safe, fun and rocking New Years Eve last night. I kept it local and pretty low-key with a party at my friend Annica’s apartment. It was great getting to ring in the new year with some of my favorite people. I even stayed up until midnight which was a new years miracle in itself.
I’m a sucker for resolutions. As a kid I would write out these long lists of goals/resolutions for the new year, often revolving around my crushes, getting good grades, and whatever else was going on in my life at the age of 10. While I don’t think you need to wait until the new year to get started on your big goals and make changes in your life, I love taking the time out on January 1st to stop, reflect, and think about what I want to accomplish in the new year. I’d love to hear what your resolutions are in the new year, be sure to let me know in the comments!
Here are my resolutions for 2015:
Fitness
Do more yoga. Specifically at least once a week. Granted, this is always one of my resolutions. After every single yoga class I take I ask myself “why don’t I do this more often?”. The truth is it’s tough to fit yoga into my schedule these days with going to work at 8AM, a sad lack of 6:30AM yoga classes in Manhattan (seriously, why isn’t this a thing Equinox?) and my general dislike for working out at night. Enough excuses, there’s always the weekends or I can devote 1 week night to some downward dog. I could definitely use the zen these days!
Run the NYC Marathon. There, I said it. 2015 is the year my friends.
Do 3 pull-ups. I would even just settle for 1! It’s been a long time goal of mine to conquer 3 pull-ups since it’s a conditioning requirement to fly out of lines at trapeze. I can do push-ups, planks, burpees you name it but pull-ups are my arch nemesis. Time to start practicing my negatives and strengthening my lats. Any tips for pull-ups is much appreciated!
Independent take off. Another trapeze goal here. My take-off is my biggest weakness when it comes to flying and really holding me back from being as powerful as I can be in the air. My less than stellar take off is partially due to the fact that I can’t shake the fear that I’m going to miss the bar when I jump up and grab it, and bad habits. Instead of focusing on catching new tricks I want to take a step back in my upcoming classes to really smooth out my take off. Getting my independent take off (meaning an instructor isn’t holding onto my belt for safety) plus the pull-ups means I will be on track to flying out of safety lines.
Career
Take the GREs. A necessary evil. I keep putting this off but really need to get it over with so I can stop thinking about it.
Plan out my grad school application process. I’m not 100% sure of what exactly I want to do next, I have a few ideas swirling around my head when it comes to inevitably going to grad school soon (I really like school, what can I say). Right now I’m fairly positive the next step for me is business school, something I never ever thought I would say as a college student pursing theater. I want to have a more defined plan of when I will start applying to business school and whether or not part-time or full-time is the best option.
Personal
Perform on stage at least once. I miss performing, a lot. It was a huge part of my life growing up and all through college. I’m not sure how or in what format, but in 2015 I want to get up on stage again.
Bring lunch to work almost every day. I’m really lucky that there’s a plethora of great + healthy lunch options nearby my office, but it starts to cost a lot of $$ going to Sweet Green every day. My goal is to bring lunch 3 days of the week since we get free lunch on Wednesdays and I can treat myself to one take out lunch during the week.
Go to bed long before midnight. Going to bed early never happens no matter how tired I am— there’s always one more thing I want to do before bed and next thing I know it’s midnight and I haven’t started getting ready for bed. Considering I usually wake up around 5:30AM to workout before work I can use every extra bit of sleep I can get and have recently been feeling the sleep deprivation kicking in. I wish I could say I’ll start going to bed at like 10:30pm but that’s not realistic, 11:30pm though is totally doable.
Read before going to bed. This is something I already do, recently though I’ve gotten caught up in scrolling through instagram and Facebook before going to bed instead of reading. I wish I could ban cell phones before bedtime overall but that’s a bit tricky since I’m in a long distance relationship and usually texting Jeremy until bedtime. At the very least I can say no to mindlessly looking at social media on my phone before bed.
Stay in touch. I feel lucky to have so many amazing people in my life both near and far. This year I want to stay in touch better than I have in the past, whether it’s texting someone out of the blue that I haven’t caught up with in a long time or reaching out to a friend for a dinner date.
Blog more. Towards the end of 2014 I totally fell off the blogging bandwagon for a few personal reasons. In the new year I’m going to blog more and kick off with a big goal of blogging every weekday, something I haven’t done in a while. I really love this blog and hey, it even got me my job. Time to start taking care of my little corner of the inter webs and start writing more!
What are your goals/resolutions for 2015?

Sounds like a great game plan for the new year! My resolutions are: to run a half marathon in less than 2 hours, to review all of my notes (for grad school) within 24 hours of lecture, to eat more whole grains and whole foods in general, and to set aside one night a week for screen-less quality time with my husband (no phones, TV, etc.). I’m glad to hear you’re planning to blog more and look forward to hearing about your adventures!
Love these resolutions! I totally agree with you can use use some more screen less time these days
I’m sure you’re going to crush it in 2015!
