Over the last few years, I’ve chosen a word that I want to focus on for the new year:
2016 = FEARLESS
2017 = FOCUS
2018 = CONTENT
2019 = FLOW
I’ve found this to be more helpful than setting resolutions or goals. Rather than feeling limited by trying to accomplish these super-specific things, I like having a word as an overarching theme to guide me during the year.
My Word of 2020
In 2020 I want to THRIVE and not simply survive.
Surviving is this word that felt like a recurring theme in 2019. I survived another Monday of teaching 5 fitness + yoga classes. I survived another week of my crazy schedule. And I survived another week post-break-up without completely breaking down.
It feels like I did just that in 2019, I merely survived.
In 2020 I don’t want to merely survive. I want to truly thrive. I don’t know what the looks like. But what I do know is right now I don’t feel like I’m thriving in my life the way it looks. So in 2020, I’m going to do what I can to get there.
I am starting to explore other income opportunities that will allow me to teach a little bit less but make a little bit more money. I’m always hesitant to talk about money stuff here on the blog, but the truth is even with teaching 15 classes a week, working a few hours at the front desk and additional income from blogging I barely make enough money to survive in NYC and cover my expenses. Something needs to change.
I am also looking at ways to adjust my teaching schedule so it feels more manageable.
I don’t have some magical answer for how I’m going to fix things — I need to figure it out. But I do know things aren’t working the way they are and therefore I’m going to be proactive about making a change.
So here’s to you, 2020. To THRIVING and not just surviving.
