I think I found my new favorite thing:
While doing my usual Sunday night shopping at Whole Foods the “NEW” sign caught my eye. There was an entire display of cut up fruit with a unique twist like mangos with siracha and the delicious papaya and shredded coconut I’m munching on right now. Obviously this is something that’s relatively simple to recreate, but there’s something nice about pre-sliced fruit waiting for you in the fridge.
My morning was a total mess– after class it felt like one thing right after another was going wrong between my coffee tumbler spilling in my bag (it now smells like chai…), not knowing why my blog wasn’t working, and realizing I had said “yes” to too many things this week. Since there was nothing I could do about the situations I decided my best bet was to sit back, try to relax, and watch an episode of Silicon Valley. Sometimes doing nothing is better than getting worked up about stuff, no?
By the time I got to work I was feeling a bit better and knew everything would work itself out, broken blog and all.
I made myself a green smoothie at home to bring to work for an afternoon snack. Warm weather means smoothie weather in my book.
One of these days I’m going to get adventurous with my smoothies and switch up my recipe, but for now I’m sticking to ole faithful- 1 cup of almond milk, a few handfuls of spinach, 1 small banana and a tiny bit of honey. After blending it I put it in a blender bottle and stuck it in the fridge at work for a few hours. After shaking it up a bit the texture and taste were still great. Good thing I work for a fitness company and no one thinks drinking a green smoothie is weird.
After work I got my butt thoroughly kicked at Brick. I haven’t been there since Sweaty Saturday but was excited to take the B|X class again. I really love the class because it takes many of the elements I liked about CrossFit– the challenging workouts that change every day and group camaraderie but takes away the things I didn’t really love– mainly the scary olympic lifts which probably aren’t a great idea for a girl with a bad shoulder.
Today’s workout got me seriously sweating:
Oh yes, running.
I haven’t run since my race last weekend, for obviously reasons, and wasn’t really planning on running again for another week or so. While my body feels fine more or less, I think mentally I’m not quite ready to head out for a run quite yet. For starters I could use a new playlist after listening to 13.1 miles worth of music.
But today I didn’t really have a choice, and did what the WOD told me to do. Sprinting down the block in the middle of a workout is harder than it sounds!
I really love that Brick offers this unique CrossFit style class minus the olympic lifting that I haven’t seen at other CrossFit Boxes. It reminds me a lot of the outdoor bootcamp classes I used to take in Westchester over the summer which I loved.
On my walk home I got to witness a great sidewalk performance from a mariachi band and some dancers. Gotta love el cinco de Mayo in NYC!
Hope you all had a great Monday and el cinco de Mayo. I kind of regret not having a margarita and some guacamole…..
